Ok simmers - I have created a new Top 100 Site - had enough of the junk that is getting out there so I am trying to do something about it.

See:

http://www.gjsmith.net/IFST100/index.htm

Reasons:

Unfortunately, there is now a plethora of "Top 100 Sites" and some of them are becoming obviously abused by fraudulent self voting, many sites being listed which have ulterior motives for their site listing and limited management by the "Top 100 Site" administrators.

Little control has been applied to other Top 100 sites with artwork/banners etc getting totally out of hand - some being over one meg in GIF animations etc. This disadvantages many other patrons who are reasonable with their artwork and also places a considerable download burden on visitors looking for sites to visit.

This new site will allow a fixed setting of 468x60 banner and an additional 88x33 button - templates are available on the new site. Any animated GIF's will be stripped to first frame only.

I am proposing that the new site will be administered aggressively and effectively to ensure that genuine sites who provide a service to the simming community and genuine voting is monitored. Frequent checking of the posted sites will be carried out regularly to endeavour to ensure their integrity and relevance to the simming community.

I believe that there are many Flight Sim sites who provide important content for simmers and that the sites and the simmers deserve an environment that is fair and equitable in the representation of a meaningful Top 100 listing.

If you wish to be a part of this community of genuine providers of Flight Sim services please feel free to surf to the above site and submit your details.

Addendum - for your information several people from various sites will be invited to be co-administrators to ensure a meaningful administrative bias to the sites listed.

Hi Simmers,

Some of you might have noticed that I now have a couple of Unpaid Advertisements listed on my web pages and the Mike-Stone web pages.

These advertisements are my attempt to support the simming industry during the economical downturn that seems to be affecting everyone and with the shut down by Microsoft of the Flight Sim Development Team there seems to be a Dark Cloud over many things in our hobby.

Now is the time for all simming sites to pull together and demonstrate their support for services and organisations that are possibly having a tough time surviving. Remember if they start to disappear then we all loose valuable services to our hobby.

I have elected to try to use some of the resources available to me to support various organisations via some FREE advertising for them. I have selected the current ones as they have been supporting the simming industry for a considerable time and have provided utilities, scenery, Aircraft and quality reading content.

Who is listed is totally my personal choice and is based on organisations that I believe are credible and genuine service providers - there are indeed many others out there but my resources are limited on how much space I have available and attempting to keep impact reasonable for my patrons.

I hope you all understand my perspective on this - I just feel that we all need to pull together and ensure that all of us can continue to enjoy our hobby long into the future.

Your support and understanding is appreciated.

Just for a quick reference so that you can see what aircraft are available and get a gist of the overall volume and variety in one pic I have created a picture with all 108 aircraft that Mike released for FS2004.

Remember these are all FREE for your personal use, NO membership requirements for access, NO advertising, just available as independent files for you to download for your flying pleasure.

However, also please remember that these aircraft are copyrighted to Mike and have caviates which mean that they are not for redistribution via any other media without consent. Packaged and released exclusively from http://www.gjsmith.net only. Emphatically not FREEWARE for general redistribution by others. Please and thank you.

Sorry but a big picture for a big number of FREE aircraft

Hi Simmers,

As you are undoubtedly aware there is a plethora of "upgrades" out there for Mike's aircraft - virtually all of them unauthorized and are not condoned by Mike.

Particularly a lot of FSX "conversions" becoming predominant. All of these modification and re-releases should be considered as "hacked" version and are not supported by Mike in anyway.

Many of the repackaged releases include Mike's original work plus the revised, recoded, hacked solutions to force the modifiers interpretation of what is, in their eyes, making it a better product or suitable for use in a simulator it was not designed for.

In fact repackaging Mike's original work and including modified work by others is fundamentally illegal no matter who is credited for the work.

By all means people are welcome to create addons and revision to different components as addons/upgrades - however publishing them should be as independent releases. Such as "Livery for xxxxx" or "2D Panel for xxxx" etc

For example: If you have modified one of Mike's aircraft and you want to release your "revision" then you should refer to the original aircraft for download and then allow people to apply your revision (packaged only with the revision items) to the original aircraft.

If the revision alters any of Mike's original code then you do need consent for releasing the revised code as part of your revision release.

As Mike has passed guardianship to me for his models then that consent must come from me.

I know, sounds draconian, but essential to protect the legal rights of Mike's products and also ensure the product integrity is maintain at the level it was designed to meet.

Remember, Mike's aircraft (released via the Mike-Stone pages) are designed for FS2004 - New Liveries are actively encouraged - as independent livery releases. Even New 2D panels can be pumped out again as independent Panel releases.

But repackaging Mike's aircraft with modified code without consent, no matter what the reasoning, is not condoned and is deemed as illegal and a breach of Mike's EULA.
With Effect 28Feb09

After some feedback I have revamped all of the Mike Stone Downloads.

To make life a bit easier I have recreated each aircraft download back to a simple zip file containing the files for each aircraft as a simple unzip into your "flightsim"\aircraft directory. This makes each much smaller in download size and saves on the desktop programs file being cluttered with "installed applications" and the equivalent "uninstall" for each aircraft.

Additionally I have swept all aircraft and identified each "livery" that is actually included in each aircraft - and rectified that in the aircraft.cfg where required.

All zip files contain appropriate Mike Stone Readme.txt and License.txt files please read and Honor Mike's EULA's.
Additionally I have swept all aircraft and identified each "livery" that is actually included in each aircraft - and rectified that in the aircraft.cfg where required.

All zip files contain appropriate Mike Stone Readme.txt and License.txt files please read and Honor Mike's EULA's.

Hi Simmers,

I am receiving some feedback reference "missing" Mike Stone aircraft.

Unfortunately there is a plethora of aircraft that Mike created in FS98, FS2000 and FS2002 that he never migrated to FS2004. A terrible shame and a massive loss to the simming community.

There is a large volume of unauthorized "hacked" conversion of Mike's aircraft from FS2000 to FS2004 but Mike, as you are aware, disowned these hybrid conversion as they were not official and very often were hazardous to the flight sim environment due to illegal and often amaturistic modification to his files.

There is also a large volume of unauthorized "hacked" conversion of his FS2004 aircraft to FSX but again not true Mike Stone aircraft, simply plagiarized and hacked version released.

I have ensured that all of the "approved" and "totally Mike Stone creations" are the ones that have made it through to being on the Mike Stone Aircraft Pages. No hacked or bodgie versions listed or available.

The site is dedicated to Mike Stone and his genuine models that he created for the FS2004 environment.

A real shame that the aircraft Mike did not migrate to FS2004 have gone into the black hole - many of them I painted and created masters for etc, several hundreds of liveries have also gone into the same black hole.

But lines have to be drawn somewhere, and publishing old Pre FS2004 models would open a pandora's box of "please upgade" with no chance of any of them being formally upgraded correctly by Mike.

Hi Simmers,

As many of you know Mike Stone has retired from the Simming Community and Model Development and has no desires to return to the hobby of Model Creation, modification or revisions.

However, Mike has graciously granted permission for me to host for Download all of his aircraft via the GJSmith.net site.

This is an excellent opportunity to gather together all 107 of Mike's models and make them all independently available to the simming community from the one spot.

To facilitate this I have created a Web within a Web which is exclusively dedicated to presenting all of his aircraft over several pages.

The web pages now contain download access to all of the Mike Stone Aircraft.

The new Pages are here:
http://www.gjsmith.net/Mike-Stone/index.htm

On these pages you will see occassional links to Additional GJSmith.net Textures which is represented by this button:

Clicking on the button will Open a new page and show the Textures that are available that have been created by me.

The critical criteria is that ALL aircraft are available on an "AS IS" basis. Simply all gathered into one spot for the convenience of the simming community.

I welcome this opportunity gifted to me by Mike to gather and present to you some outstanding aircraft models and to ensure that they ALL continue to be available for your Flight Sim Pleasure.

Hi Good People,

Just to get the ball rolling on the new forum - below is a pic of just some of the SectionF8 F86 Sabre liveries that I have been able to knock up.

This is an outstanding aircraft and the team there intend to build the entire suit of different models - including the CAC version.

So pop on over to the http://www.sectionf8.com and grab the aircaft and then feel free to use some of the liveries I have created for her - you will find them under F86-SectionF8 listing in the catalogue.

Also a test on how to do an Attachment
